The I-20 extension is intended for F-1 students who need to remain in an educational program beyond the estimated completion date of their program as stated on their I-20 forms.

I-20 Extension Eligibility:

  • The student must have continually maintained legal status
  • The extension request must be supported by valid academic or medical reasons.
  • The student must be making normal progress towards the completion of the IEP program
  • Student expressly agrees to continue maintaining full-time student status at CCLS
  • Student is expected to request extension of stay at least two weeks before the expiration date on his/her current I-20

PLEASE NOTE:

  • The extension procedure will extend the student stay; not their F-1 visa.
  • If the student has an expired visa stamp in his/her passport, s/he may remain in the U.S. However, if s/he travels out of the U.S. on an expired F-1 visa, s/he will still need to apply for a new visa stamp to re-enter the U.S.
  • This request does not automatically grant an I-20 extension. The request will be reviewed by the school PDSO/DSO and approval may be granted or denied.
